When Will the World End?

2012: A Movie in Review

I saw 2012 and it’s a good movie! It is telling people about what the end of the world will probably look like. It is making all humans work together. It has natural disasters and increasing temperatures and tsunamis around the world. The world is in a big disaster.
Everyone should wait in line to go see it!

Making Bandung More Beautiful

Grade one science is doing a unit calling ‘Making Bandung More Beautiful.’
We are learning how to take care of our Earth. So far we have done a little walk around the school to pick up trash and to make our school look beautiful.
We also made litter bots out of trash from our homes. We learned that you can reuse materials instead of throwing stuff away. We will be placing our litter bots around the school with our posters to remind you to “Go Green” and to make Bandung more beautiful.
We will also being doing several other projects from compost piles to making paper and hanging posters around the school.

Care to Share..

As we are giving our resources and time during our November project and into the holidays, let us reflect on one of our school’s core values:

We Care

A man stood off in the distance and saw a boy on the beach constantly bending down, picking something up, and then throwing it into the ocean. His curiosity drew him closer to the beach only to find thousands upon thousands of starfish washed up and stranded on the shore. With even closer intrigue he continued to watch the boy ever so gently pick up each starfish he could and toss it back into the ocean. Puzzled, the man finally said, “Don’t bother yourself, Boy. There’s too many in need. You can’t possibly make a difference.” Once again the boy bent down, picked up a starfish, tossed it into the ocean, and replied, “It made a difference for that one.”
Mutiara Nusantara International School is committed to making a difference - one small act of kindness at a time. We cannot solve all the world’s problems; we cannot feed all the world’s poor; we cannot mend all the world’s illnesses - God does not ask us to. Though He does ask us to simply love our neighbor. The Pearl PEACE Project is our vehicle in heeding that command.

Mutiara Nusantara International School will do our part in revealing God’s love to the world in various ways through these five objectives:

    Protecting the planet
    Educating the unlearned
    Assisting the poor
    Caring for the forgotten
    Expressing God’s gift of love

We recognize that real peace in the world will never happen without true peace in a person’s heart. And true peace in the heart will never happen without a real relationship with Jesus Christ. The answer to the world is clear...Jesus.
Our Care 2 Share month and grade one’s Making Bandung More Beautiful are perfect examples of how we are putting this into action. Please join with us in these efforts!

International Guest Speaker

Grade 5: International Guest Star

In science class, we were learning about cells. So, we invited a guest star named Mr.Jun. We went to the science lab and he was waiting for us. He told us some things about cells and he answered some questions that we didn’t know about cells. We went there on 28th of October. He showed us a presentation and some videos about the cells. We really enjoyed the presentation. Thanks, Mr. Jun! —Faby, Gabriel, and Ellyse

Grade Six Shares With KG-B

“On Thursday, 5 November 2009, we, Grade 6 helped KG-B to read some story books for them to get better at reading. We and KG-B students chose the books and we helped them by helping with the sounds of the words. We would love to help them to read better again because it will help them and it was fun for us. We are looking forward to going there again.”

Girls Basketball

Two weeks ago on Monday the 26th of October we participated in a tournament which was the Bina Bakti Cup.

The high school team consisted of five people which was myself, Audrey (10), Jessica (10), Monica (10), and Caroline (10) and the junior high school team which was Jessica (8), Vannesa (8), Olivia (8), Paramitha (8), Devika (8), Steffy (8), Gabby (7), Meher (7) and Shekina (7).
The junior high had a game against Bina Nakti which ended in a victorious cheer of the MNIS team winning with the score board at 19-17. While the high school did not have as large of a success, they still played valiantly against Trinitas. We all enjoyed having the opportunity to play! Jane, G. 10

Grade 11: Dueling Debates at the Phyxius Challenge

Seeing our MNIS students take on other schools at the Phyxius Debate at BPK was an impressive sight. Ms. Rebekka and the team pounded procedures for week before sacrificing their entire weekend to represent our school.
The adjudicators were quite amazed with our teams as Vincent, in perfect lawyer form, presented our side, and Michelle and Yohan stunned their opponents with unchallengeable facts and figures. Team 2 was as equally awesome with David’s smooth style, OJ’s cool confidence, Marcia’s brilliant defense points, and Pamela’s powerful closing statements (Mind your own business! Thank you.) Our two teams finished back to back in the middle of the standings. Great job, Team!

Goblins, Golf, Guitars, oh my!

Once again, Harvest Night was an evening of fun by all. MNIS wants to give many thanks all the parents that donated candy and prizes which made it a wonderful time;to PIE for their help with food and decorations (awesome); to Grades 11 and 12 (and Audrey) for their special events this year; to our teachers and especially Ms. Temmy for making it all happen; to our maintenance, kitchen, and cleaning crew; and to everyone who came out to support this event together! The costumes were so creative and colorful this - we can’t wait to see what will appear next year.
Through all the fun and activities, we were able to raise over Rp. 1,000,000 for charity and over Rp. 2,000,000 for school projects...an amazing group effort!
