Preparing and Sharing Portfolio: Our Elementary Student-Led Conference
As it says in Luke 2:40, 52, “There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom beyond his years, and God placed his special favor on him….So Jesus grew in height and in wisdom, and he was loved by God and by all who knew him.” On the basis of these Scriptures, we should include evidence of intellectual, moral, spiritual and social / emotional development in the form of a portfolio.
This year in term 4 students are preparing to present their portfolios to their parents. There will be two days scheduled in June for this special presentation.
What is a portfolio? It is a collection of student work that paints a picture of who a child is. No child is one-dimensional, so a portfolio will include a wide variety of materials.
The portfolio is a wonderful tool. It allows teachers and parents to build a detailed picture of who the child is and gives us clues to what they can become. In order to meet these goals, we must plan our portfolio carefully. We must make sure that the contents are selected wisely.
Our first attempt at preparing the portfolio has been an enriching and enjoyable experience so far. As a team, the teachers are exploring ways of presenting the portfolio to you, as it will be your first time too. Students have started reflecting on their work and shuffling through their folders, reviewing papers, consulting with classmates, making choices individually as well as a class, composing their letters, and so on.
The goal of this Student Led Conference is to foster self confidence, pride in work, and independent and responsible learning habits by means of show casing their work to you, the parents.
At a later date, we will be giving you further information about how to approach this and support your child in this event.
